Karen Wong

Karen Wong founded Hobbamock Design, a Boston-based graphic design firm committed to non-profits and social causes. Clients included City Year, Reebok Human Rights Foundation, Timberland Foundation, and Share Our Strength. In the new millennium, she sold her firm, and embarked on a new venture in London, becoming Managing Director of Adjaye/Associates a young architectural practice. She oversaw business development, strategy and marketing/pr for the studio that grew from 6 to 35 people during her six-year tenure. She returned stateside in summer of 2006 to oversee strategic communications, visitor services, special events, and all online and printed materials as Director of External Affairs for the New Museum. She was promoted to Associate Director in 2010. She is the Founding Co-Director of the Festival of Ideas for the New City, a downtown initiative involving 200 cultural and civic organizations that attracted 70,000 people to the Bowery neighborhood from May 4-8, 2011.

 

She has art directed books including David Adjaye-Houses and David Adjaye-Making Public Buildings; and the catalogs Upper Room, Freedom One Day, AfroMuses and Blue Rider for Chris Ofili. She is the co-editor of Shift: SANAA and the New Museum.

 

She graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a double major in art practice and art history.
